Happy Thursday everyone,

I hope you all are having a wonderful day.

We started our day with O’ Canada and the announcements in assembly.

We then went to the SK room for our Daily Calendar, weather circle, and 100 days of school. Today we were fortunate enough to have some reading buddy time with the grade7 and 8s.

After recess we had phonics. Today we did the “Mm” sound. We began by brainstorming words for that contained the “Mm” sound. 

We then completed the activities in our Phonics Duotangs.

Following Phonics we had topic. Today we continued with the rules of the road in terms of crossing the road as pedestrians. Students completed an activity in which they were to identify signs of the road, as well as cautionary objects in the image.

After lunch, everyone had Gym class with Ms. Cranfield. Gym class was followed by Dance, also with Ms. Cranfield.

We ended the day in French class with Mme. Villeneuve.

Just a reminder: Tomorrow, Friday, is Earth Day Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to dress in blue, green, yellow, and or brown.

Wednesday, April 18

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

We started our day with O’ Canada and the announcements in the gym.

We then had the daily calendar, whether circles, 100 days of school, and shared our weekend news with Penguin.

After recess, we had Phonics. Today we revisited the “Rr” sound. We came up with many words that contained the “Rr” sound. We started by singing along to Jolly Phonics, followed by brainstorming words. Students worked in their Phonics Duotangs before going to Gym.

Following phonics, everyone went to Gym class with Ms. Cranfield.

After lunch, we had topic. We gathered in the SK room to work on an identification activity. After the activity, everyone sat in a circle and used real-life examples to identify modes of transportation. For example, when asked if students had been on an airplane, they were to respond with yes or no, and where if yes. For the second half of topic, everyone gathered in the JK room to practice the rules of the road when crossing the street.

-         Stand at the corner.

-         Stop. Look. Listen.

-         Hold hands with a grown up.

Students then followed those rules and “crossed the street” on our road carpet.

We ended the day with Music class. We continued the singing to “Somewhere over the Rainbow”. A copy of the lyrics has been sent home with the students so they may practice at home.

Friday, April 13

Howdy, everyone!

I hope everyone had a lovely day.

We started our Friday with O’ Canada and the announcements in the gym with everyone.

We then went to Mrs. O’s room for the daily calendar, weather circle, and 100 days of school. As everyone was dressed as a cowgirl/ cowboy, Madison sang the colour song.

In Math class today, we put the final touches on our tally and graphing activity. Students who completed the activity were encouraged to practice writing in their writing books.

After recess, we had Show and Tell.

Following lunch, everyone went to Gym class with Ms. Cranfield. 

Gym class was followed by some individual choosing time.

We ended the day in French class with Mme. Villeneuve.

Just some reminders:

-         May lunch forms are due on Monday, April 16

-         Please submit Re-registration forms to Mrs. Burke as soon as possible
-   Please return your child’s reading books on Monday, April 16 so I may send home new ones

Happy Thursday everyone!

I hope you all had a good day.

We started our morning with O’ Canada and the announcements in the gym with everyone.

We then had the daily calendar, weather circle and 100 days of school in the SK room. Before Math class, we went to watch the Grade One/Two class’s French presentations.

In Math, we continued on our geometric shape tally and graph activity.

After recess, we had Phonics. Today we covered the “Hh” sound. We started with Jolly Phonics, and then brainstormed some words which have the “Hh” sound in them.

Phonics was followed by Topic. We learned two transportation sings today. After the songs, we went around the room and everyone picked a mode of transportation they wished to speak about. The students told us the mode, medium, distance traveled, and destination of a particular vehicle. For example; a car (mode) travels on land (medium), for a short journey (distance), and to the store (destination).

After lunch, everyone went to Gym class with Ms. Cranfield.

After Gym, we worked on our unfinished phonics activities.

We ended the day in French class with Mme. Villeneuve.

-         Tomorrow, Friday is Cowboy/ Cowgirl spirit day

-         Please submit Re-registration packages to Mrs. Burke as soon as possible

Wednesday, April 11

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful day.

We started the day with O’ Canada and the announcements with everyone in the gym.

We then went to the SK room and did our morning jobs. We had our daily calendar, weather circle, and 100 days of school.

In Math class, we continued our tally and graph activity with the geometric shapes.

After recess, everyone went to Gym class with Ms. Cranfield.

Gym class was followed by Phonics. Today we covered the “Ee” sound. We started by singing our Jolly Phonics song. Second, we found objects within our classroom which had the “Ee” sound in them, and finally, worked on our activities in our Phonics duotangs.

After lunch, we had Topic. Today, everyone was given a mode of transportation. Students were then asked to stand in a specific section of the room which represented which medium their mode of transportation traveled on. For example, someone with an image of an airplane stood in the area which was sectioned off as air. As an extension, students were paired off and had to determine, using the same images from the previous activity, if their mode of transportation was used for a short distance or a long distance. In addition to that, students were also asked to identify where they may go using that particular vehicle.

We ended the day in Music class. We continued to practice our song, Somehwhere Over the Rainbow, for the Spring Concert.

Some Reminders:

-        Tomorrow, Thursday, students are encouraged to wear a jersey for any team they wish to represent in honor of the Bronco’s tragedy in Saskatchewan. If students have a jersey for a team they play on, they are encouraged to wear that.

-        Friday is Cowbow/ Cowgirl Spirit Day

-        May Lunch Forms have been sent home

-        Please remember to submit the Re-registration packages for the academic year 2018-2019 to Mrs. Birke as soon as possible.

Tuesday, April 10

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying their day.

We started our day with O’ Canada and the morning announcements.

After announcements, we came back to the SK room for our morning jobs. We had the daily calendar, weather circle, and 100 days of school.

In Math today, we reviewed tallies and discussed pictographs.

After recess, we had Phonics. Today we covered the “CcKk” sounds. We came up with many objects and word which had the “CcKk” sound in them.

Followed by Phonics, we had Topic. In continuation of our modes of transportation discussion, we watched a video which discussed the different modes of transportation and where each one is used. For example, a boat only sails within a small area, where a ship sails across the ocean. Students were asked to mention one interesting fact they learned from the video and share it with the class.

After lunch, everyone had Gym class with Ms. Cranfield.

Gym class was followed by a continuation of Math. Students were given a various number of geometric shapes and were asked to create tallies of how much of each shape they had and will later graph them.

We ended the day with Art class. Next week we will complete the art piece. Today students coloured the card with a variety of colours. Their pieces have been painted black, and next week, they will scratch out different shapes to create a spring picture.

Just some reminders:

-         Please return the Re-registration forms to Mrs. Burke as soon as possible

-         Tomorrow, Wednesday is Jersey Spirit Day. Please refer to the letter that went home.

-         On Thursday, students are encouraged to wear a jersey for any team which they wish to represent in honor of the Bronco’s tragedy in Saskatchewan. If students have a jersey for a team they play on, they are encouraged to wear that.

-         Friday is Cowboy/ Cowgirl Spirit Day
